This summer, our studio was buzzing with imagination, creativity, and the sound of scissors snipping and rollers rolling! Across two vibrant printmaking workshops and two energetic puppet-making sessions, children aged 8–12 had the chance to get hands-on with a variety of creative techniques—and they absolutely rose to the challenge.
In our printmaking workshops, children explored block printing, carving their own stamps, designing repeat patterns and printing them onto fabric tote bags to take home. They also experimented with cyanotype sun printing, using natural materials and sunlight to create striking blue-toned images and lino printing – creating unique prints using specialist tools and techniques.
In our puppet-making workshops, children got stuck into designing and building their own original puppet characters. From sketching out ideas to considering how to construct their ideas in 3D, they used cardboard, tape, paint, wool and plenty of imagination to bring their puppet pals to life.
We saw a couple of dogs, a crazy rabbit, a couple of robots, a punk, and Dobbie amongst others, and each creation was full of character and charm! The process encouraged not only creativity and problem-solving but also storytelling—many children gave their puppets names (hello Mr Chomp!), voices, and backstories by the end of the day. Each puppet reflected its maker’s creativity and storytelling flair.
These workshops weren’t just about making things—they were about unlocking creativity, boosting confidence, and giving children space to explore their ideas in a supportive, imaginative setting. The enthusiasm and originality on display were incredible, and we’re so proud of what every participant achieved.
