About Our Workshops
How many people will there be in each workshop?
This varies depending on the nature of the workshop. The maximum number of participants is something that we consider very carefully when planning a workshop. Space requirements, health and safety considerations, the quality and amount of tutor support and the cost are all taken into consideration. You will find max group sizes vary from between 6 to 12 participants and an indication of the typical group size is given with the workshop details.
Will everyone be “arty”?
We love “arty” folk of course, but just because someone wasn’t labelled “arty” at school we don’t think they should be prohibited from doing creative things forever! The pleasure of creating, of learning new skills, making stuff and expressing ideas is something for everyone. We also hope that the seriously arty are well catered for too!
Will I need to bring materials or equipment?
For some workshops, the equipment and materials will all be provided. However, others may require you to bring things with you and this is clearly stated on the information page for each workshop . Workshops with costly fabric or materials will incur a materials charge payable on the day – this will be clearly stated on the workshop page.
Is there parking available?
Yes there is free parking available but space can be limited. Double parking is often required and someone should be around to guide you – let them know if you need to get out early. Car sharing would be a great idea if you are coming with someone you already know – and great for the environment too!
What if I haven’t got a car?
If travelling by train, our local stations in order of proximity are Northallerton, Thirsk, Harrogate, York and Leeds. All will require an onward local bus connection to Masham or a taxi to ArtisOn. Please contact Masham Community Office and Tourism Info Point on 01765 680200 for additional advice. Masham to ArtisOn at High Burton takes about 30 minutes to walk, if you fancy the exercise, although there is no pavement for most of the time and it is a busy road.
Is there access for people with mobility issues?
Yes, parking can be arranged at the entrance and there is wheelchair ramp access to the building. Once in, all facilities are on one level and the toilet facilities are wheelchair friendly. Good lighting is provided throughout and we are happy to discuss any special requirements to ensure a great day.
Can children participate in workshops or are they for adults only?
Most workshops are aimed at a more mature audience and the minimum age would be 16 years old. We do take children over 14 by arrangement but all children under the age of 16 or vulnerable adults should be accompanied by an adult.
What will the tutor be like?
Our tutors are a friendly bunch – welcoming and aware of your needs. They have been selected on the basis of both their wonderful work and their ability to communicate clearly and teach effectively.
What happens on the day?
The day is mixture of learning and relaxing with like-minded folk. See the the information page of each workshop to get an idea of what to expect from your day.
What sort of food and refreshments will there be?
Experience shows that creativity needs feeding! There will be drinks and refreshments on arrival, a delicious homemade two course lunch, afternoon tea or coffee and biscuits, which are all designed to make sure your day is a real treat. We make amazing food so you can relax and make something amazing too!
Can you cater for my special diet?
All our food is vegetarian. If you have any other special dietary requirements such as needing a gluten, nut or dairy-free lunch just let us know on the booking form and we’ll be happy to make sure you’ve got plenty of choice.
Can I bring my own refreshments?
Your lunch and refreshments are all included in the cost of the course but if you would prefer to bring your own food anyway, that’s fine with us. As some of our courses involve the use of potentially dangerous equipment, no alcohol is permitted during a workshop day. If anyone fancies an alcoholic beverage, we’d recommend a well-earned visit to one of Masham’s unbeatable pubs or breweries at the end of the day!
About Workshop Bookings
How do I book a place/s on a workshop?
Simply browse the list of workshops to see what workshops are offered in our current schedule. You can see how many places are still available or whether the workshop is full. Click Info & Book to see more information, including a course description, what to expect from the day and what you’ll need to bring with you. You can book up to 3 places at a time and enter contact details for each attendee before adding to your basket.
Can I go back and book other events and then pay in one go?
Yes you can. Continue to browse other workshops and add them to your basket. Once you’re done, you can review your basket, remove anything you don’t want after all then continue to pay all together.
What online payment methods are available?
You can pay using PayPal or use our secure payment gateway using most credit or debit cards.
What if I don’t want to pay online?
That’s fine. If you prefer not to pay online, you can elect to pay offline and your place will be held for 7 days. You can call us on 01765 689637 and pay using a credit or debit card over the phone.
Why doesn’t the total workshop fee include the materials cost stated?
In order to keep up-front costs to a minimum, we separate out the cost of materials (if any) and these are given directly to your tutor on the day of the workshop. If there is a separate materials cost, this is shown clearly on the workshop information page.
When will I need to pay the workshop fee?
You will need to pay the full fee at the point of booking or within 7 days of booking, unless previously arranged.
What happens if the workshop is already fully booked?
If an event is full, it is shown greyed out and instead of a button for Info & Book you will have a button for Register Interest. Click this option and fill in the form to let us know you’d like to be notified of any cancellations or new dates.
Do you offer discounts?
Yes, keep an eye out for special promotions or last minute discounts. On the Workshops page you can click the check box to show only ‘current offers’. All offers or last minute spaces are promoted first on Facebook and Instagram. To ensure you are the first to hear about any special offers, you should Like our Facebook page or follow us on Instagram.
About Workshop Fees, Terms & Conditions
What does the workshop fee include?
The fee shown includes the cost of the tutor/s, a home made two-course lunch, tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day. The cost of materials used for each workshop varies and this is listed in the workshop information and paid directly to the tutor on the day.
Are Materials Charges Fixed?
We do the best we can to stick to the materials charge quoted for each workshop at the time of publication. Unfortunately, as we open bookings for courses up to 14 months in advance, on some occasions, the volatility of materials prices might mean a slight increase in the charge is needed on the day. We will make every effort to inform you of any changes 3 weeks in advance of your workshop date.
What if I change my mind about my booking and want to cancel?
If you change your mind after booking, we will be more than happy to transfer your full fee to any other workshop (subject to availability) or to a credit voucher, or provide a refund minus an administration charge providing that this is not within 3 weeks of the start of the workshop, in which case, no refunds or transfers are permitted. Please read our Booking Terms for more information.
Can someone else come in my place?
Yes, of course you can always nominate a friend to come in your place at any point before the start of the course. Just send an email or give us a call to tell us the name of your replacement and if they have any dietary requirements.
What if ArtisOn is able to resell the the cancelled place?
If we can resell your cancelled place within 3 weeks of the workshop, we will refund or transfer your fee to a credit voucher minus a 20% administration charge.
Is ArtisOn likely to cancel the workshop?
It is unlikely we’ll have to cancel. Our policy is not to disappoint people unless we absolutely have to. In the unlikely event that we do need to cancel, you will receive a full refund of the fees paid or the opportunity to transfer the value to another workshop – whichever you prefer.
Is the workshop likely to be cancelled if there are not enough people?
There are rare occasions when a workshop does not attract enough bookings to make it either viable or enjoyable. In such cases we would aim to give you as much notice as possible and either a full refund would be given or a transfer of the value to another workshop would be made.
About Gift Vouchers
Do you do gift vouchers?
Yes. You will find a link to gift vouchers on the Workshops page. There are several prescribed values that can be purchased online. If you need something different, just get in touch.
How does the voucher come?
We will receive notification of your online purchase. Within 48 hours of receipt, we will manually generate the voucher and email it to you as a printable PDF so you can print it out. If you would prefer a hard copy to be sent, please let us know and we can sort it out.
What if I want to book a specific workshop as a gift?
If you know the workshop you want to give as a gift, simply book online in the normal way (use your email address if you want it to be a surprise!), then you can download our gift template which can be edited to show the person’s name, workshop and dates etc so you have something to give them on their special day.
