We had an incredible time welcoming young artists into the studio for our very first Printmaking Workshop for Kids—and what a day it was! Full of discovery, colour, and hands-on creativity, the workshop gave children the chance to explore a range of exciting printmaking techniques, and their enthusiasm was nothing short of inspiring.
The day began with a magical introduction to cyanotype printing—a fascinating process that uses sunlight to create beautiful blue-toned images. The children started by experimenting with stencils and man-made objects, arranging them on sensitised paper to create bold shapes and silhouettes. After getting the hang of the process, they moved on to a more natural touch, foraging for flowers and leaves to create delicate botanical prints full of texture and detail. Watching their faces light up as their prints developed was a real highlight!
Next up was foam block printing, where the children were encouraged to dream up their own unique designs. From animals to abstract patterns, each child carved their image into soft foam blocks, rolled them with ink, and proudly printed their creations onto tote bags to take home—a real crowd-pleaser and a brilliant way to showcase their work.
The final session of the day introduced the group to the more advanced technique of linocut printing. With safety tools and lots of guidance, each young artist carved their very own linoleum block and experimented with making multiple prints, learning how subtle changes in ink and pressure could create totally different results.
Throughout the day, the studio buzzed with creativity, curiosity, and a genuine sense of achievement. It was a joy to see the children gain confidence with each new process, and even more wonderful to witness the pride they took in their finished pieces.
We’re so proud of the imagination and focus shown by everyone who took part—and we can’t wait to do it all again. Huge thanks to all the children and their families who got involved.
Watch this space for more creative adventures coming soon!
