Join textile artist Georgia Wilkinson for an exciting day learning about repeat pattern design.

Georgia will introduce you to the world of repeat patterns providing you with some of the core design principles to consider, especially in light of what the design is to be used for. During the workshop a number of techniques will be demonstrated and followed by exercises to experiment with the creation of successful patterns.

Following this experimental phase, you will then be able to select your most successful design and take this through to production using Georgia’s sublimation printing equipment to create your own set of coasters and a large glass worktop saver. For a small additional cost, there is also an option to create a mug, time permitting.

Please note that there is a materials charge of £15 which covers table saver and coaster set. A mug can be produced for a small cost in addition if desired.

What to expect

Time at ArtisOn is designed to take you away from it all and provide the environment, the time and the guidance you need to create. You can expect a warm welcome, skilled and friendly tutors plus the chance to meet like-minded people keen to share ideas and experiences. You can even leave us to clear up the mess! There will usually be two workshops going on and we encourage everyone to mingle and be nosey about what the other workshop is up to.

Arrive in time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning your session at the appointed time. There will be a mid-morning break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. Lunch is usually around 12:45 for about 45 mins – you can expect a homemade 2 course lunch. The main course will be delicious but don’t overdo it as the puds are usually worth waiting for! There will be a further afternoon break with the most wonderful cakes from Roots & Fruits Home Bakery, a North Yorkshire micro-bakery producing handmade bread and cakes. All food and refreshments are included in the price of the workshop.

Finish time is given as a target – there are occasions when the session may overrun so do let us know if you need to be away promptly.

We aim for your day to be a real treat… of course you could always learn a new skill in a shed or a draughty village hall with a curly sandwich, but we want you to have more fun than that! So we make it a day being looked after, with good food, good company and great inspiration!

What you’ll need to bring with you

There will be lots of books and source materials available for inspiration, however, if you do have ideas and inspiration of your own, please bring it along.

The day could be messy so please wear something you don't mind getting dirty. Aprons are available but feel free to bring your own.

“A big 'Thank You!' for the fabulous lampshade making workshop on Friday night. I had a great time and felt very well looked after. Your warm welcome, cakes and cups of tea were much appreciated, especially as I had travelled from York to join you. Georgia was a fabulous teacher - showing us how to make the lampshade step by step, providing very clear written as well as verbal instructions and giving us with support as we needed it. All the resources were readily available and Georgia's amazing fabrics are beautiful. I really enjoyed the whole experience and feel very proud of, and delighted with, the lampshade that I made, especially as a 'creative novice'. I posted a picture of the finished lampshade on my own Facebook page and have had a record 77 'likes'/'loves'/'wows' from my friends already!”
