Dates: Wed 26 Feb, 04, 11 Mar 2020 – 3 full days
During this series of 3 days with Julie Hand, you can reflect your love of nature, art, pattern, landscapes, or any other imagery you like that’s appropriate to use as background for a unique house sign or door plaque. The point of this 3 day workshop is to challenge yourself to create a stunning plaque background rather than create a plaque with loads of letters. This is intended to create an amazing welcome to your home, room or shed with a beautiful mosaic sign like no other. Suitable for indoor/outdoor display.
All materials are provided, but if you have something personal you wish to incorporate into your work, then please do bring it along.
You will:
– Draw out your number(s) and background
– Create the number(s) in either glass, tiles or polymer clay
– Select and use a variety of materials such as tiles, stained glass, china into your design
– Follow the Andemento or flowing line to create a coherent background image
House numbers, words such as ‘Shed’ or a person’s name are perfect. However, the more letters/numbers on the plaque, the less background design can be created and the design objectives of this series will not be met.
So, an absolute maximum number of letters is set at 7 or preferably less.
Some previous mosaic experience will be required for this series.
Please note there is a £35 material charge payable on the day. The tile size will be 10in by 10in

What to expect
Time at ArtisOn is designed to take you away from it all. We provide the environment, the time and the guidance you need to create. You can expect a warm welcome, skilled and friendly tutors and the chance to meet like-minded people keen to share ideas. You can even leave us to clear up the mess! There will usually be two workshops going on and we encourage everyone to mingle and be nosey about what the other workshop is up to.
We encourage you to arrive at 9.30am. This will allow time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning workshops at 10am. There will be a mid-morning break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. Lunch is usually around 12:45 for about 45 mins – you can expect a delicious homemade 2 course lunch. There will be a further afternoon break with tea or coffee and cake. All food and refreshments are included in the price of your workshop.
The finish time given is a target. There are occasions when the session may overrun so do let us know if you need to be away promptly.
We aim for your day to be a real treat. You could always learn a new skill in a shed or a draughty village hall with a curly sandwich, but we want you to have more fun than that! So we make sure we provide a day where you will be looked after, with good food, good company and great inspiration!
