Dates: 3, 10, 17, 24 Oct and 7, 14 November

If you want to build your dressmaking and tailoring skills in the company of a small group of dressmaking enthusiasts, guided by professional seamstress, Claire Humphries, this is the course for you!

Over the course of 6 sessions you will work on your own particular dressmaking projects. Each week there will be the option of a short learning session according to the needs of the group e.g. zips, button holes, collar, pleats etc…. This will be followed by time to work on your own project/s with Claire on hand to guide you.

The course is aimed at those wishing to improve their dressmaking. It requires you to select a commercial pattern which you will be able to adapt to fit requirements. Use this course to extend your skill, tackle a pattern that’s more complex than you might choose for yourself, or something that includes features that take you out of your comfort zone. Claire will ensure you achieve a professionally executed project.

***YOU WILL NEED TO ENSURE YOUR MACHINE IS IN WORKING ORDER IN GOOD TIME BEFORE THE DAY – CHECK YOU HAVE ALL THE RIGHT CABLES & ANY ATTACHMENTS***

Please note that this course is not suitable for those wishing to create a pattern from an existing item of clothing. The level of support required to translate an item of clothing into a workable pattern cannot be provided in this format. You would require a more thorough understanding of pattern cutting techniques and are advised to attend Claire’s two day Pattern Cutting workshop (click here for info)or call to discuss.

What to expect

A weekly course at ArtisOn is designed to provide the environment, the time and the guidance you need to create and develop your skills. The weekly format allows you to develop your work and ideas between sessions. You are more able to work at your own pace and really feel you have made progress between the first and last session.
You can expect a warm welcome, skilled and friendly tutors, plus the chance to meet like-minded people keen to share ideas and experiences. There may be two courses going on and we encourage everyone to mingle and be nosey about what the others are up to!

Full day weekly workshops

We encourage you to arrive at 9.30am to allow time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning workshops at 10am. There will be a mid-morning break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. Lunch is usually around 12:45 for about 45 mins – you can expect a delicious homemade 2 course lunch. There will be a further afternoon break with tea or coffee and cake. All food and refreshments are included in the price of the workshop.

Half day weekly workshops

We encourage you to arrive at 9.00am to allow time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning your workshop at 9.30am.. We always have a mid-session break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. All refreshments are included before and during the session each week although lunch is not.

We often run half day workshops consecutively on one day. Therefore the finish time given is fairly crucial. We will do our best to ensure your session does not overrun.

What you’ll need to bring with you

Please bring with you a project/s that you wish to work on together with the following:

Your sewing machine, attachments and instruction book.
Sewing scissors.
Pins and needles.
Tape measure.
Quick Unpick.
Assorted threads.

A notebook for recording tips and techniques might be a good idea too.

Lunch is not included.

“Obviously highly skilled and experienced, Claire guided us really well. I was a complete beginner and she gave clear instructions and good encouragement. I enjoyed the whole experience , the expertise, the company and the lunch. I will definitely be back.”
