John Harrison

John is a trained graphic designer with a strong illustrative background. Drawn to pen and ink from and early age, John specialises in painting and sketching using line and wash techniques.

Sketching in a quick, loose style is perfect for on the spot sketches which are worked up into a finished painting and John shares his passion for these techniques with enthusiasm! He is an active member of the Urban Sketchers movement, and loves to work with people of all abilities. As a Yorkshireman, he loves the landscape of the Dales and Moors Nation Parks littered as it is with dry stone wall and buildings of many different types, it suits his style perfectly.

John’s favoured subject matter features built structures in the wider landscape, exploring the contrast between the man-made and the natural. Largely self-taught, he doesn’t consider himself a painter, but uses the unpredictable yet exciting medium of watercolour to highlight his drawings. His work is in many private collections both in the UK and internationally, he undertakes commissions both private and corporate, and has recently had a successful book published – Pen and Wash,by the Crowood Press- the first printing of which sold out quickly.
