Develop skills in wirework, beadwork and metalwork with jewellery designer and maker Michelle Pilkington. It’s an opportunity to master new skills and techniques to create fabulous and distinctive jewellery & other decorative items – Christmas decorations perhaps! Under Michelle’s guidance you will have the chance to explore a range of wire & bead techniques both for jewellery making and other decorative applications in bookmaking & decorative surfaces i.e. appliqué and felt work.

The course offers a range of skills that include:

– Wire and Bead techniques & their potential uses
– Links and Chain making
– How to incorporate beads, material & cords
– The use of tools
– Introduces the concept of recycling old jewellery, adding new components and designing new inventive pieces with a vintage feel.
– Other application uses the techniques learnt could apply to

Note this course does not have a specific materials cost as this will depend on the projects undertaken by each individual. All materials supplied at cost.

What to expect

A weekly course at ArtisOn is designed to take you away from it all and provide the environment, the time and the guidance you need to create and develop your skills. The weekly format allows you to develop your work and ideas between sessions, you can work more at your own pace and really feel you have moved on from week one to the end.

You can expect the usual warm welcome, skilled and friendly tutors plus the chance to meet and get to know like-minded people keen to share ideas and experiences.

There may be two courses going on and we encourage everyone to mingle and be nosey about what the others are up to!

Arrive in time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning your session at the appointed time. There will be a mid-session break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. Due to the requirement for change-overs between morning/afternoon/evening sessions for weekly courses, the finish time given is fairly crucial – the session should not overrun.

All refreshments are included before and during the session each week although lunch is not. However, by popular demand we do provide a light lunch consisting of soup or similar and a pudding from 12:00pm until just after 1:00pm so that anyone attending either morning or afternoon sessions need not go hungry! The cost is £5 and it can be booked and paid for each week for the following week. It would be helpful if you could let us know if you require lunch for week 1.

What you’ll need to bring with you

All the tools and equipment you need will be provided however, if you have any of the following please bring them:

Old earring hooks
Old jewellery to repurpose
Old or new beads

As always, it's a good idea to wear clothes you don't mind messing up.
