Dates: 6th, 13th & 20th October, 3rd, 10th & 17th November

If you want to build your dressmaking and tailoring skills in the company of a small group of dressmaking enthusiasts, guided by professional seamstress, Claire Humphries, this is the course for you!

Over the course of 6 sessions you will work on your own particular dressmaking projects. Each week there will be a short learning session according to the needs of the group e.g. zips, button holes, collar, pleats etc…. This will be followed by time to work on your own project with Claire on hand to guide you.

The course is aimed at those wishing to improve their dressmaking. It requires you to select a commercial pattern which you will be able to adapt to fit requirements. Use this course to extend your skill, tackle a pattern that’s more complex than you might choose for yourself, or something that includes features that take you out of your comfort zone. Claire will ensure you achieve a professionally executed project.

***YOU WILL NEED TO ENSURE YOUR MACHINE IS IN WORKING ORDER IN GOOD TIME BEFORE THE DAY – CHECK YOU HAVE ALL THE RIGHT CABLES & ANY ATTACHMENTS***

Please note that this course is not suitable for those wishing to create a pattern from an existing item of clothing. The level of support required to translate an item of clothing into a workable pattern cannot be provided in this format.

What to expect

A weekly course at ArtisOn is designed to take you away from it all and provide the environment, the time and the guidance you need to create and develop your skills. The weekly format allows you to develop your work and ideas between sessions, you can work more at your own pace and really feel you have moved on from week one to the end.

You can expect the usual warm welcome, skilled and friendly tutors plus the chance to meet and get to know like-minded people keen to share ideas and experiences.

There may be two courses going on and we encourage everyone to mingle and be nosey about what the others are up to!

Arrive in time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning your session at the appointed time. There will be a mid-session break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. Due to the requirement for change-overs between morning/afternoon/evening sessions for weekly courses, the finish time given is fairly crucial – the session should not overrun.

All refreshments are included before and during the session each week although lunch is not. However, by popular demand we do provide a light lunch consisting of soup or similar and a pudding from 12:00pm until just after 1:00pm so that anyone attending either morning or afternoon sessions need not go hungry! The cost is £5 and it can be booked and paid for each week for the following week. It would be helpful if you could let us know if you require lunch for week 1.

What you’ll need to bring with you

Please bring with you a project/s that you wish to work on together with the following:

Your sewing machine, attachments and instruction book.
Sewing scissors.
Pins and needles.
Tape measure.
Quick Unpick.
Assorted threads.

A notebook for recording tips and techniques might be a good idea too.

Lunch is not included.

“Claire was excellent and very patient!”
