Kirstie Williams
Kirstie Williams is a practising printmaker and textile artist. Her practice is process led and primarily explores the research and application of natural dyes and handmade plant based printing inks. She draws inspiration from textile heritage, historic buildings and archival material from which to develop her work and ideas.
She primarily works with screen printing methods and enjoys working on specific projects, and commissions as a focus for her practice.
Sustainability plays a strong role in her design process, emphasising slowness in the creation and consumption of products to instil quality and foster traditional skills.
With a background in teaching at various levels, Kirstie also delivers community based workshops and courses as an intrinsic part of her practice – she recognises and values all that creativity brings to individuals, especially in improving wellbeing, and encourages people to engage in the arts regardless of their background or experience.
Kirstie works as Head of Maker Spaces at The Art House in Wakefield where she oversees the memberships and public courses for the Darkroom, Printmaking and Ceramics community studios. Kirstie is also a founder and committee member of Leeds Print Workshop, a Cooperative printmaking studio located in the centre of Leeds. Established in 2016, LPW aims to offer affordable printmaking facilities to people in Leeds and surrounding areas and also bring new people to the medium through a range of printmaking workshops and courses.
