Alex Macey

Alex is a highly skilled, self-employed stonemason with over 20 years of experience, based locally in the York area. Before setting up independently, he worked with various heritage and conservation companies, honing his craft on listed buildings and historic structures. His work has focused on the repair, restoration, and replacement of stonework, including the carving of new pieces to replace those lost to erosion or time.

Having come full circle in his career  – now regularly fulfilling carving commissions – Alex is passionate about sharing his craft. Through his workshops, he offers others the opportunity to experience the timeless skill of stone carving, guiding participants as they create something unique, personal, and lasting.

Alex’s teaching style is patient and encouraging, making his sessions ideal for both complete beginners and those curious to explore traditional techniques with expert guidance.
