A half day taster workshop with Gaynor Pearson – try your hand at letter carving and raise funds for Mashamshire Community Office. Masham based stone carver and ArtisOn FAT Controller, Gaynor Pearson is a Trustee at MCO, which is a registered charity serving the Masham community. Gaynor is giving her time for free, along with all staff and tutors, to raise funds to support the effort to purchase MCO’s building and save its vital services for Masham.
This half day session is a great opportunity to get a taste of handling and using hand tools to carve lettering in stone. Find out about different types of traditional letter carving, the best stone to use and the hand tools used to create it. Get a hands on taste of the techniques and put chisel to stone to create some V cut lettering. Letter carving is a slow process and this short workshop is only a
taster, so you can expect to complete a couple of letters or initials as samples. If you get the bug, or have a bigger project you’d like to complete, a full two day workshop is also available – see https://artison.co.uk/workshops/letter-carving-in-stone-spr23/
All equipment and materials are provided.
Following the 3 hour session, you’ll have worked up an appetite, so a two course homemade lunch is all included at around 12:30pm. Lunch will finish by 1:30pm.
What to expect
Time at ArtisOn is designed to take you away from it all. We provide the environment, the time and the guidance you need to create. You can expect a warm welcome, skilled and friendly tutors and the chance to meet like-minded people keen to share ideas. There will usually be two workshops going on and we encourage everyone to mingle and be nosey about what the other workshop is up to!
We encourage you to arrive half an hour before your workshop begins. This will allow time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning your session. We always have a mid-session break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. All refreshments are included.
The finish time given is a target. There are occasions when the session may overrun so do let us know if you need to be away promptly.
