A half day stone carving taster workshop with Gaynor Pearson, raising funds for Mashamshire Community Office. Masham based stone carver and ArtisOn FAT Controller, Gaynor Pearson, is also a Trustee at MCO, which is a registered charity serving the Masham community. Gaynor is giving her time for free to raise funds to support the effort to purchase MCO’s building and save its vital services for Masham.

During this half day you will choose from a range of local stone, and get a taste of the timeless skills of the stone carver. Using traditional hand tools to make your marks and the same carving techniques that were used in the ancient world, you will try your hand at a simple shallow relief carving. Your subject might be inspired by what you see around you – a simple leaf or flower for example. The choice is yours and this is an ideal introduction to this addictive craft.

All equipment and materials are provided.

Prior to the 3 hour session, get to know the other participants over a lovely two course homemade lunch which is all included and will be available from 12:30pm ready for a the workshop to start at 1:30pm.

What to expect

Time at ArtisOn is designed to take you away from it all and provide the environment, the time and the guidance you need to create. You can expect a warm welcome, skilled and friendly tutors plus the chance to meet like-minded people keen to share ideas and experiences.

There will usually be two workshops going on and we encourage everyone to mingle and be nosey about what the other workshop is up to!

Arrive in time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning your session at the appointed time. There will be a mid-session break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. All refreshments are included.

Finish time is given as a target – there are occasions when the session may overrun so do let us know if you need to be away promptly.
