Kick off with a relaxed ArtisOn lunch, followed by a half day workshop with Sue Palin, to make a simple drum lampshade. During this fun afternoon session, you will learn all about how to make a professional-looking drum lampshade to take home.  Ideally bring your own chosen fabric for the lampshade but Artison will have a limited choice available if you don’t have your own but please let us know beforehand. It is a great course to use a surplus small piece of fabric or re-purpose a family airloom clothing or household fabric item. Perfect too if you want to bring some specific fabric to match your décor. You can make a drum lampshade of either 20cm or 30cm diameter. We recommend your fabric should be approximately 70cm x 22cm, or 97cm x 26cm respectively. Lightweight cotton is the best weight and the easiest to get a perfect finish, but a heavier cotton or linen can work too.

You will have plenty of time to make and finish your lampshade and still enjoy an afternoon tea and cake… you might even have time to have a go at a second or a mini lantern too.

Click on the title below to see a list of items to bring with you if needed.

Additional lampshade kits are available to purchase for £10.

What to expect

Time at ArtisOn is designed to take you away from it all and provide the environment, the time and the guidance you need to create. You can expect a warm welcome, skilled and friendly tutors plus the chance to meet like-minded people keen to share ideas and experiences.

There will usually be two workshops going on and we encourage everyone to mingle and be nosey about what the other workshop is up to!

Arrive in time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning your session at the appointed time. There will be a mid-session break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. All refreshments are included.

Finish time is given as a target – there are occasions when the session may overrun so do let us know if you need to be away promptly.

What you’ll need to bring with you

All equipment and the lampshade kits are provide but ideally please bring fabric, according to the size of lampshade you prefer, as follows:

20cm x 18cm - A fabric piece at least 70cm x 22cm
30cm x 21cm - A fabric piece at least 97cm wide and 26cm

We have quite a fabric stash at ArtisOn so if this is a problem we will have some to choose from...
