Session 1: Wed 10 March 2021 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Session 2 to be agreed with Claire and group

An innovative course aimed at experienced machine embroiderers who wish to get out of their comfort zone but still have access to guidance, advice and refresher skills. If you want the freedom to explore your ideas combined with ongoing access to an expert sounding board and trouble-shooter, plus the added bonus of working with others, sharing ideas, exchanging experiences and learning from each other’s work, this course will work for you.

SESSION 1 – GETTING STARTED – WED 16 MARCH:
This day will be a full day at ArtisOn with Claire. You should come along with ideas for your project to share with Claire and the rest of the group. During the day you will:

• Have a chance to share your project idea  and feel inspired and confident
• Discuss each project and pool ideas with guidance from Claire
• Consolidate plans, discuss materials, products required, techniques to use
• Refresh techniques as needed
• Begin to work up your designs
• Leave with a clear plan of action regarding how to tackle your project

You’ll need to bring your design idea, any materials you know you’d like to incorporate and your usual sewing gear.

Lunch and a usual day at ArtisOn is all included.

INTERIM REMOTE SUPPORT…
Between session 1 and session 2, there will be a period of 10-12 weeks to be agreed by the group.  During this time you will have ongoing access to Claire. This will be via a mixture of email exchanges and telephone discussion. You can email Claire photos of progress and ask advice about tricky decision points. You can collate issues and queries and maintain contact with Claire on a weekly or biweekly basis. Obviously, this contact time will need to be managed and Claire will contact you to diary appointed times to speak. Last time, each participant had around 3 hours of Claire’s time per person during this period, which kept them all on track.

You will also be encouraged copy one another into emails and get feedback and ideas from each other as well as Claire. The ongoing contact with Claire and your peer group helps keep everyone focused on making progress and staying on track with their projects.

SESSION 2 – REVIEW PLUS TEA AND CAKES – DATE TO BE CONFIRMED
This session is a chance for you all to see the results of everyone else’s labours, it’s an opportunity for everyone to bring their work to review progress with Claire and the group. During this half day session there will be the opportunity to have face to face support from Claire on any final issues as well as a chance to review each other’s work and share the learning gained from the your projects.

What to expect

Time at ArtisOn is designed to take you away from it all. We provide the environment, space and guidance you need to create. You can expect a warm welcome, skilled and friendly tutors plus the chance to meet like-minded people keen to share ideas. You can even leave us to clear up the mess! There will usually be two workshops going on and we encourage everyone to mingle and be nosey about what the other workshop is up to.

We encourage you to arrive at 9.30am. This will allow time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning workshops at 10am. There will be a mid-morning break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. Lunch is usually around 12:45 for about 45 mins – you can expect a delicious homemade 2 course lunch. There will be a further afternoon break with tea or coffee and cake. All food and refreshments are included in the price of your workshop.

The finish time given is a target. There is some flexibility depending on how your work is progressing. Depending on the tutor and the group, start times for day 2 can be flexible too.

We aim for your day to be a real treat. You could always learn a new skill in a shed or a draughty village hall with a curly sandwich, but we want you to have more fun than that! So we make sure we provide a day where you will be looked after, with good food, good company and great inspiration!

What you’ll need to bring with you

You’ll need to bring your design, any materials you know you’d like to incorporate and your usual sewing gear.

“Obviously highly skilled and experienced, Claire guided us really well. I was a complete beginner and she gave clear instructions and good encouragement. I enjoyed the whole experience , the expertise, the company and the lunch. I will definitely be back.”
