Here is your chance to experience the thrill of working with hot glass. This short session will give you a taste of what it’s like to work with molten glass and its potential to create a variety of beautiful decorative glass items. At the studio of Uredale Glass in Masham, you will see glassblower, Tim Simon, demonstrate a range of processes and techniques and then have the chance to try aspects of the process yourself. The skills required to produce items worth keeping are obviously far greater than you can pick up in such a short time. So, Tim gets you to participate at key stages of the process and “glues it all together” so you are able to achieve successful pieces of glass. You’ll have control of things like selecting colours, heating the glass, casting hot glass and a chance to have a go at parts of the glass blowing process.
There will be only 2 people per session and you will alternate between spectating and doing. Due to the requirements of social distancing and health and safety, one person will be seated while the other participates. Since the Covid-19 crisis, the sharing of glass blowing tubes is no longer possible. This may restrict the extent of your hands-on blowing experience. But still, by the end of the session you will have a small collection of items that you have had a hand in – decorations and baubles in colours of your choice.
Please note that the items made need to be cooled in the kiln overnight and can be collected the next day, or if necessary, posted on.
Please note lunch is not included.

What to expect
Time at ArtisOn is designed to take you away from it all and provide the environment, the time and the guidance you need to create. You can expect a warm welcome, skilled and friendly tutors plus the chance to meet like-minded people keen to share ideas and experiences.
There will usually be two workshops going on and we encourage everyone to mingle and be nosey about what the other workshop is up to!
Arrive in time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning your session at the appointed time. There will be a mid-session break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. All refreshments are included.
Finish time is given as a target – there are occasions when the session may overrun so do let us know if you need to be away promptly.
