The Celtic craft workers of the Dark Ages left us with some of our most dazzling artworks such as the Sutton Hoo treasure and the Book of Kells which feature intricate, beautiful decoration known as knot work. Printmaking – Dry Point & Chine Colle
An exciting 2-day day workshop aiming to introduce an unusual combination in printmaking. These lovely techniques use simple materials to create line drawings that can then be coloured or have collage elements such as hand dyed paper added using the ancient technique known as ‘chine colle’.
- Learn how drypoint differs from other printmaking techniques – Create a drypoint image
- Ink, wipe and print the plate using the intaglio method
- Use a variety of base plate materials
- Add collage and colour using ‘chine colle’ technique

Sketching in Swinton Park Walled Garden
This luxury hotel normally keeps its gardens closed to the public. You’ll be guided by local artist Ian Scott Massie who has painted Swinton, both the castle and gardens, many times. His paintings and sketches of Swinton have been so highly regarded that Swinton Park now provide one of his works as a gift to all newly weds who are married at this magical hotel.

Surface Texture in Felt – Masterclass
Drawing on Sheila’s immense expertise in felting, this is an experimental workshop exploring methods of combining stitch within the feltmaking process, creating insertions within the layers of wool and fabric prior to the feltmaking process. The layering approach creates interesting and unusual textures on the surface of the felt which can then be further embellished when dry.
This is complex feltmaking, suitable for those with previous experience of making felt by hand. Limited places.

A simplified approach to a complex subject. Painting wildlife has inherent problems arising from the wealth of detail involved. This course strips down the subject to basic shapes and shows how to make them work in the setting of a painting through shape, colour and texture.
